In the two letters of the word "Guru" "Gu" and "Ru" "Gu" means - "secret" or "hidden" and "Ru" means - "manifested" or "visible". The following two main parts of this infinite creation or existence spread in the ten directions, comes across all of us:-
(1) "Secret" (unmanifest) part-
This "secret" part is that part of creation (existence) which is not visible to our eyes, but the whole creation is manifested and expressed from the same "secret part", is based on it, operated and controlled by it. He is also pervaded in the inner part of all beings and objects. That omnipotent "secret" part of existence is called the "formless God".
(2) "visible" (expressed) part- , This "form" is that portion of the universe or cosmic existence that is visible or manifested. This is the "Sagun and Saakaar" creation or the "Sagun Saakaar Parmeshwar". Thus, the existence of this entire universe is "Gu" (secret) + "Ru (form) = "Guru". The basic element of this entire creation (i.e. "Guru"), by which it is created and operated, is the ultimate element - "knowledge" (dnyaan shakti or dnyaan tattva).
We all will agree that without "knowledge" nothing is possible in this world. It will not be an exaggeration if it is said that this whole creation is the manifestation of "Knowledge". Whatever is the superpower named "Parameshwar" or Parabrahma Parmatma, which systematically creates and operates the creation, its basic principle is "knowledge" and all other elements are generated and covered from the same "knowledge" (dnyaan tattva).
That "knowledge element". (dnyaan tattva) of "Guru Shakti" is pervaded everywhere. The same "Gurutattva" with its systematic "knowledge", under its strong time (manifesting/ controlling) power or Kaala shakti, from subtle to subtle mind, intellect, mind, ego, memory, sanskar, prana, instinct, thought etc. to the larger extrovert form, color, quality, nature, Tama, Raj, sat (threefold); of opposite nature to each other (dialectical); and ever-changing; Root-conscious, grazing, of creation-
(a) the five great elements (land, water, fire, air, sky); With the combination of their Panch-tanmatras (smell, taste, form-color, touch, sound), etc., it creates in the form of all elements, celestial bodies, creatures, substances, subjects, feelings, actions etc.; And-
(b) the same "Guru" (Knowledge) Shakti nurtures them all, it controls them, it transforms and changes them, it determines the life span of all these different ages, The same "Guru (Knowledge) Shakti" in its form, quality and dynamics. From time to time, the creatures, objects and substances of the universe merge into their "secret" (unmanifest) form from their "creation" (manifest) and This sequence of "Laya" (process of transformation from manifested to unmanifested) continues to operate, continuously from time immemorial to eternity, in a systematic chronological order.
That's why understanding the glory of this "Gurutattva", Lord Shiva has said to Mother Parvati-
“Gururbrahma Gururvishnu: Gururdevo Maheshwarah. gurursakshatparam brahm Tasmai Shrigurve Namah.
It is clear from the above discussion that the "unmanifest" (gupt) and "manifest" (form) eternal creation that exists all around us is "Guru" or "Gurutattva" filled with "knowledge element" (shuddha dnyaana shakti/tattva) and in addition to this "Gurutattva", there is nothing in the universe.
This is further proved by following shlokas from guru gita-
Akhanda Mandalaa Kaaram
Vyaaptam Yena Charaa Charam
Tat Padam Dharshitam Yena
Tasmae Sri Guruve Namaha
Adnyaana Timiraandhasya
Dnyaanaanjana Shalaakayaa
Chakshurunmilitam Yena
Tasmae Sri Guruve Namaha
There are 12 forms of this guru tattva which are experienced by the seekers which will be discussed sometime later.
